LOCAL MEZZO, COMPOSER TO PREMIERE SENSUAL NEW WORK Razón and Buckman's a togethercoloured instant Offers Enlightened Take on Love
Local Mezzo Soprano Gina Razón will premiere a togethercoloured instant, a song cycle in six movements by American composer Timothy Buckman, on May 25, 2011 at the Broomfield Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The six movements of a togethercoloured instant set the poetry of Emily Dickinson and e.e. cummings to the lush texture of Mr. Buckman's composition. Exploring the nature of love, discovery, and sensuality, Ms. Razón is accompanied by a chamber ensemble of flute, oboe, violin, viola, cello and two guitars.
Says Ms. Razón, "a togethercoloured instant highlights my voice at its most vulnerable, most revealing, most powerful. The melodies feel as if they reach out to caress a thought, and then retreat. They are flirtatious and yet full of deeper meanings." Mr. Buckman describes his work as "an exploration of what it is to love so deeply that you have memorized every angle, every gesture of the one you love. It transcends gender--this is about the enlightenment of one's sensuality."
a togethercoloured instant is the culmination of a collaboration that began when Razón and Buckman were students together at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Ms. Razón describes the song cycle as "an extremely intimate work; product of a friendship of many years. These works arise equally from both of us, composer and singer."
Dominican-American mezzo-soprano Gina Razón is recognized for her versatility, physicality and the rich warmth of her instrument. Embracing diverse roles, Ms. Razón possesses what one critic hailed, "a warm, rich singing voice...one of the evening's high points." Ms. Razón has performed with Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Opera Fort Collins, Loveland Opera Theatre and OpenStage Theatre. Further information about Ms. Razón is available at www.ginarazon.com.
